Why do visitors struggle to find relevant information?
Visitors struggle to find information when the site creates friction through unclear navigation, excessive options, and content organized around internal departments rather than buyer questions. Every extra step, unclear phrase, and unnecessary option adds friction that causes visitors to drop off.
Most people scan rather than read, looking for headings, cues, and familiar patterns. When a homepage presents six navigation buttons and five CTAs simultaneously, visitors freeze. Signs of a confusing site surface in analytics: high bounce rates, low time on page (under 30 seconds), and low conversion rates all indicate visitors are not finding what they expected. If prospects contact the company asking about products or services the site does not appear to offer, the site is actively creating confusion about its own capabilities. Visual hierarchy should answer four core questions quickly (who is this for, what problem does it solve, how does it work, what do I do next), with the value proposition and primary CTA positioned at the top of that hierarchy.
