How do you identify the highest-impact constraints on a website?
The highest-impact constraints are identified by analyzing where conversions drop in the funnel, which high-traffic pages have the lowest conversion rates, and which points in the user journey show the steepest behavioral drop-off. Conversion funnel drop-offs pinpoint the exact location where the site loses the most potential pipeline.
Session recordings and heat maps reveal behavioral constraints: users clicking wrong areas, getting lost in navigation, or abandoning forms at specific fields. High bounce rate on high-traffic pages represents the highest-volume waste and is typically the first constraint to address. Heuristic evaluation identifies systemic constraints: visibility issues (users do not know what is happening), lack of user control (forced actions), error handling failures (users cannot recover from mistakes), and convention mismatches (expectations violated by non-standard patterns). Revenue-level constraints surface when landing page conversions are too low (messaging or offer problem), when MQLs do not qualify (traffic source or audience mismatch), or when high-traffic pages do not convert (page-level constraint). Business goal constraints precede all of these; if goals are undefined, buyer personas unclear, or primary KPIs not agreed upon, there is no basis for determining which constraint matters most.
