AI can produce a website in a weekend. Between page builders with AI-assisted copy, AI-generated layouts, and template libraries that assemble themselves from a few prompts, the technical barrier to launching a site has collapsed.

Companies are treating AI-built websites the same way they treated traditional redesigns: as a project with a finish line. Why AI-generated copy lands flat without positioning work
AI is a pattern-matching system. Give it minimal context, a company name and a vague description of what you do, and it pattern-matches against every other company in your space. You'll get polished copy that says nothing specific. The kind of messaging that could belong to any of 50 competitors.
Across roughly 1,200 sales conversations, about 95% of companies lack a solid go-to-market foundation. No clear positioning. The competitive advantage isn't defined, and the buyer journey hasn't been mapped. When that foundation is missing, AI has nothing meaningful to work with. It fills the gap with generic patterns pulled from its training data, and those patterns produce the worst positioning you could have: sounding exactly like everyone else.

The highest-scoring items become that month's sprint. A typical month might include rewriting the above-the-fold copy on a high-traffic landing page, restructuring a conversion path that session recordings show is confusing visitors, and adding proof points to a page where trust is clearly the blocker. Check the bounce rates on your five highest-traffic pages. Above 50-60% means the messaging isn't matching visitor intent. Then check exit rates on pages that should be pushing visitors deeper into the site. If people leave instead of clicking through, the next steps aren't clear or compelling enough.
Conversion rates on your offer pages tell the rest of the story. Below 2% usually means a messaging problem, an offer problem, or both.
