[FAQ] B2B Websites

What is the difference between a custom website and a template-based website?

A custom website is designed and built from scratch to match a specific brand's strategy, user journeys, and technical requirements, with every component planned through buyer, branding, and competitor research. A template-based website uses pre-built, standardized layouts and frameworks where the brand applies style preferences like colors, fonts, and logos within the template's existing structure.

The core difference is the degree of control over every decision. Custom builds start with a blank canvas: information architecture, page layouts, conversion paths, interactive elements, and integrations are all purpose-built for the organization's goals. Template-based sites start with a pre-coded structure that determines the range of possible layouts, features, and user flows. Template packages allow surface-level customization, but unless an agency modifies the underlying template code, the level of customization typically stops at visual preferences. This distinction affects more than aesthetics. Custom sites can implement tailored conversion funnels, unique interactive tools, and deep integrations with internal systems. Template sites deliver speed and affordability but operate within the boundaries the template author defined. The choice is not inherently about quality; it is about whether the site's requirements fall within or outside what a template can accommodate.
