# What is a Design Blueprint and how much does it cost?

A design blueprint is a four-week sprint that establishes the complete visual direction for a website before committing to a full development build. It produces a style tile, brand exploration work, a full visual direction document, and a final Figma mockup of one key page, giving the client a concrete preview of the finished product at a fraction of the full project cost.

The blueprint serves as a risk-reduction tool. Instead of committing $30,000 or more to a full build based on mood boards and verbal descriptions, a team can invest $6,000 to $12,000 to see exactly what the finished site will look and feel like. If the direction is wrong, the cost of course-correcting is measured in thousands rather than tens of thousands. [Lean Labs offers three blueprint tiers](https://www.leanlabs.com/blog/growth-driven-design-cost): Improve at $6,000 (three hours of live design collaboration, best for a visual refresh), Impress at $9,000 (eight hours, the most common choice for B2B companies doing a full redesign), and Inspire at $12,000 (11 hours, for companies that need a completely custom visual identity). Each tier includes a "No Yay, No Pay" guarantee: if the client is unhappy with the direction by week three, they receive a full refund. The blueprint follows the messaging sprint in the GDD sequence, so by the time design work begins, the positioning and buyer journey architecture are already defined.
